AYURVEDA - THE ANCIENT SCIENCE

"When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use.
When diet is correct, medicine is of no need."
- Ayurvedic Proverb

Ayurveda is a five thousand year old system of healing, with origins in the Vedic culture of ancient India. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda is derived from the root words ayuh, meaning "life" or "longevity", and veda, meaning "science" or "sacred knowledge." Ayurveda therefore translates as, "the sacred knowledge of life."
Ayurvedic medicine ("Ayurveda" for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic ("whole-body") healing systems. It's based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease.
Therapies are typically based on the appropriate diet and lifestyle for each body type, or Dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha or a combination ). Doshas are the forces that create the physical body. They determine conditions of growth, aging, health and disease. Typically, one of the three doshas predominates and determines one's constitution or mind-body type.
The use of complex herbal compounds, minerals and metal substances may be recommended as needed to facilitate healing and maintain wellness.

About
Sandra Lourido, RN, PHN, MSN
Registered Ayurvedic Practitioner
Registered Ayurvedic Herbalist and Pharmacist

After a successful career in healthcare spanning 4 decades, but peppered with personal health issues which lasted 30 years, I was able to overcome my ills and I learned to heal myself. My struggles with diabetes, liver damage from pharmaceuticals, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, psoriasis, IBS, Spinal cord injury and anoxic brain injury left me spent and hopeless and wanting to give up life.
The turnaround and hope were realized in 2010 when my last effort to find a way out of my despair led me to the root cause of my health woes.
Subsequent to my initial recovery, I realized that the positive results I achieved were not sustainable unless I undertook some significant lifestyle changes.
My lifestyle changes were made possible because of Ayurvedic Medicine, which has given me the best model for sustainable outcomes. Having now graduated from 4 years of Ayurvedic Medicine training, I decided to help others.
My Life's mission includes teaching, empowering and supporting people who are frustrated with their health issues as I once was, to find the way to recovery and wellness just like I did.
